Buying Your First Home: What I Wish Everyone Knew

There is something really special about helping someone buy their first home.

I still love seeing the moment when it finally becomes real. The keys are handed over, they walk through the front door and suddenly it is theirs.

But getting to that moment can feel like a lot.

If you are a first time homebuyer, here are a few things I want you to know.

First, you do not have to know everything before you begin.

That is what your REALTOR® is there for. My job is to explain the process, answer questions and help you understand what is happening along the way.

Second, do not be afraid to talk about your budget.

Your lender can help you understand what you qualify for, but I also encourage buyers to think about what payment actually feels comfortable for them.

There is a difference between what you can technically afford and what you want to spend every month.

Third, keep an open mind.

You may walk into a house expecting to love it and realize it is not for you. Another home may surprise you.

Finally, do not rush because you are worried you will miss out.

The right home is worth waiting for.

Buying your first home is a big milestone. It should be exciting, not something you feel like you have to figure out by yourself.
